How did the Chinese come up with such a light, airy, crispy bit of sweetness that goes down with such ease after a sodium packed meal? The kind of meal that has you drinking gallons of water afterwards. I don't know, but I think it's brilliant. I love Fortune Cookies. The slight staleness mixed with a hint of orangey flavor that leaves a waxy feeling in my mouth. I savor the Fortune Cookie before I read the little fortune tucked inside.
I yell across the table to those not in the know, "Don't read your fortune before you eat the cookie, it won't come true." Why? I don't know, a quirk, a superstition? It's not like those little numbers jotted on that paper have ever brought me great fortune. I've never had the experience of having my "fortune" come true.
I think the cookies were made so that when you're feeling fat and bloated after eating your Egg Foo Young or your Chop Suey, you have something to laugh about rather than clutch your stomach and vow: Never Again!!!!
More Fortune Cookie fun here.
Well no wonder those little bits of paper predicting changes in my life never worked. I've always read the fortune before eating the cookie! Curiosity, you see. Cute post. :)

No wonder! I've been doing it backasswards! I eat them when I'm hungry an hour later. LOL

Maybe that's why my fortunes have never come true! I always read before eating.....good to know. (=
