Do you know how to take care of yourself in times of tragedy? When the weight of the sadness of the state of the world feels heavy in your soul. When the actions of a few touch and affect the lives of millions. When the world feels out of balance.
Honor the wound, feel the pain. It is more than ok to feel the weight of the sadness. Beyond the issues at the forefront of these tragedies is our humanity. We feel compassionate pain for the families of the innocent people who lost their lives senselessly. We pray for their souls to find peace. We feel. And then we are left to sift through the aftermath which is oftentimes layered in hate and blame.
I do not want to tread those waters here. I don't know what the "right" answers are or if what I'm saying is "pc". What I do know is that collectively we all feel the sadness of these losses and our hearts are heavy with grief.
Today, I want to ask you this: how do you take care of yourself in times of immense tragedy?
Do you shut off the tv or your social media?
Do you gather with your beloveds at home? in your place of worship?
Do you spread love?
I believe the only way we will be able to heal going forward is to spread love to our fellow man.
And maybe we are not even in a place where we can reconcile what that looks like.
Take care, dear one. Gather your tools that will balm the wound you're feeling.
Share some love with your people, with a stranger, with yourself.
Rage, cry, writhe, and shake it out.
Or just be with the silence if that's what you need.
There is no "right" way. Just feel through it. Allow it to be. Give it a name.
Being silent about it or stuffing it away is a temporary band aid.
This feeling cannot hide in the dark.
